A Peaceful Addition: Legacy Park’s New Green Space Welcomes Visitors

7/1/2025

Comments

Monument Square District has added a unique green space in Legacy Park to make our little downtown park an even more peaceful place to sit and relax. For several years a local foundation has donated funds to Monument Square District earmarked for downtown beautification projects. In 2024 the Monument Square District board unanimously voted to create a green space in the gravel area of Legacy Park as the 2025 beautification project. Additional electricity has been installed allowing for more opportunities within the park. Garden of Eden, Phil Wolford, met with the board president to discuss different options for the area and he presented several great designs. Monument Square District board is dedicated to the central business district and enhancing the quality of life of Urbana. Legacy Park and the new improvement adds to the enhancements and vibrancy of downtown Urbana.

Monument Square District is adding a green space in Legacy Park to replace the plain gravel area. Garden of Eden, Phil Wolford and his crew are working hard in this heat to create the Legacy Park green space and a fence will be added for additional character within the next month.

Monument Square District has added electricity in this area to open up possibilities in the future and the  space still gives the opportunity to add annual flowers for color. We hope in adding this space it brings an even more peaceful atmosphere to our little downtown park.
